Welcome to History Connected: Context and Commentary
Whether you're a history teacher, student, or enthusiast, we welcome you to our little corner of the web—History Connected: Context and Commentary. At History Connected, we believe that understanding the past is essential for making informed decisions in the present and shaping a better future.
Our blog is all about helping you make sense of history and its relevance to today. We have three main columns to help you do just that:
Context Matters: Because History Doesn't Happen in a Vacuum
Delve into the historical context of present-day events, people, and movements. Understanding the context in which something happened is critical for evaluating its enduring relevance. So we'll be exploring the social, political, economic, and cultural factors that shaped the past, and how they continue to influence the present.
Not Another Amazon Review: Book Reviews for History Teachers
Finding the quality and useful secondary readings for the secondary classroom can be a challenging task. In this column, we review books through the lens of history teachers, with an eye towards how they can be used in the classroom. We'll give you an honest assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of each book, and offer ideas for how you can use them to engage your students.
Keeping My Commentary to Myself (But Sharing it with You)
We offer our own insights and commentary on current and historical events, people, and movements. It's important to have informed and thoughtful discussions about the past, and this is the place for that. We'll be sharing our own perspectives and asking for yours, too. We hope that this column will be a space for respectful and meaningful dialogue about the past and its relevance to today.
So there you have it – a brief introduction to History Connected: Context and Commentary. We're excited to dive in and explore the past with you, and we hope that you'll join us on this journey. Whether you're a history teacher looking for new resources, a student seeking a deeper understanding of the past, or an enthusiast looking to connect with others who share your love of history, we've got something for you.
